How'd you come up with that figure?

So you'd try to go for the private party price at a dealer?

So you'd try to go for the private party price at a dealer?

They have retail prices calculated out too. But in the current market, I'd say that any reasonable offer is possible. Start out with a lowball offer, and take it from there.

The private party value KBB spit out was $30,500. The suggested retail price was closer to $34,000. The asking price was somewhere in the middle. I guess it's a place to start. Thx

(I don't buy cars at dealers so I really have no idea)

We paid roughly $2000 below the asking price when we bought our 325iT (CPO at dealer)

I think he pulled it out of his ass... :dunno:

Wholesale on that car is about $27,000 based on what they are doing at the auctions... I think MSRP was around $38-39k?

something between $30-31k is fair.

Oh come on now, it's not for me.

My brother and his SO need a replacement for her current DD. They drove a bunch of Audi A4's in various trim - they had avoided the BMWs because they were quite a bit more expensive and neither saw how they could be worth it. A couple weeks ago they drove one, called me and said "Yeah, they're worth it!"

Thanks for the insight, FIL!

What did you specify for the car's condition? It's very rare that a car would fall under "excellent". Even (my opinion) a car being sold by a dealer.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed "excellent."

Despite "knowing" that it wasn't for you, I totally forgot about your brother and that whole thing. :banghead: There were other weird things running through my head.

Have them consider a new one too... BMW has some very good programs right now because sales have been a bit slow... they are currently offering 0.9% financing on most new 2008's, so if they want to finance any part of it the difference in price might shrink with the savings on finance charge. Plus, if they are willing to take a car from stock I'd imagine pricing can get very close to invoice.

(EDIT: yes, I meant 2008's)

You mean 08's.

I wish they still made the 330i (or I should say brought as they make it for the EU). It's sad the 325/328's in the states...

I imagine sales will only really pick up once the lease terms get better again.

An '08 328i equipped identical to my '06 330i, while having a slightly lower MSRP, would lease for significantly more (assuming the same terms and an identical deal wrt price over invoice).

Paying over $600/mo for a 328i is just stupid.

Without the torquey and tuneful engine though...

This is a CPO car.

That's seems like a pretty good deal for a nice, low mileage car.

I'd do my best to get the price down, but I wouldn't be embarrassed to pay that.

I believe this is a cash purchase and I think they didn't want to spend more than $30k (which is why they were looking at the Audi since the resale isn't as good). A little over $30k, no big deal, but a new 2008 would be a lot over $30k.

On a cash deal, yes, that is a big jump to go to a new one from a used one. But on a finance, a $31,000 used car at average rates (~6%) and an new $37,000 car at 0.9% results in a difference of $30 per month on a 60 month loan. Just throwing it out there...

I do think this used one is a good deal, though. Especially if they plan to keep it for a while, since it is not even a year old (in service date was Aug '07) and it has almost 90k miles of warranty. I also did a bit more digging around and found out this was a BMWNA company car that was sold in June at a factory sale at Manheim. I could not access the auction results from that date as my MMR does not go back that far, but based on the results from the factory sale last week, the '07 328xi ranged from $28,000-$30,000. Being a manual and a bit lighter on equipment (no Nav or Sport), I'd say they paid about $28,000 for this car. Maybe that will be a helpful bit of info for you.

Thanks for all your help, Fil! I'll give my brother a call now... though I suspect he already pulled the trigger.

Sorry for the hijack, Fil. But can you tell me what a fair price on this one is? Also likely a BMW company car: WBANN73557CN04699. Thanks in advance!

He bought it and is now driving it from Michigan to Colorado. He got what I think is a very good price for it. Says it's mint except for two pin-head sized dings, one on the front and one on the back bumper.
