FS - 1987 Mercedes 420SEL

Well.... It's come time to give the TANK a new home.

We've finally come to the conclusion that we have too many cars and it's time to let one go.

Details:

1987 Mercedes 420SEL
210k miles
No accidents - Just minor road rash and one small indentation on left front fender above wheel arch. (Bumped pointed end of steel box )
If this car was 5 years old, it would be in great shape. Considering it's 20 years old now and has over 200,000 miles... It's is in outstanding condition if I do say so myself.
Engine and trans all original except heads rebuilt three years ago after throwing timing chain.
Maintained 'per the book' or better by myself, dealer or my great local indy shop.
Service records available.
Family bought from original purchaser ~1992 with 40k on the clock.
I took it over from them around 1997.
A/C converted to R134. Blows cold.
Transmission shifts nicely.
Mobil 1 every 5k since entered family. Engine does not use any oil at all.
All accessories work.
Not a 'sports car' but gets along nicely. WONDERFUL machine to soak up the miles on the highway...

Asking $4,000 obo.....

My uncle had an '86 420SEL. Great car. If it were local, my old MB mechanic would be all over it I'm sure.

Good luck!

Beautiful car! My dad had an '87 560SEL. it was a tank. great memories of that car. good luck with the sale.

the funny thing about the 560SEL was that it had two horns. a button on the dash used to switch from one horn to another one. do you have this on the 420? I've never seen it before or after.

No - That is something I am not familiar with. (I've never really messed with a 560, just our 420..... so that is a new one to me...)

Well... A couple of weeks on craigslist did the trick.

Sold the car yesteday to a fella who had another one but lost it in an accident recently.
He was 'T-boned' by Suburban in downtown Seattle a couple of weeks back.
He walked away from that accident (a bit shaken but not too worse for wear).
He said that if he was in any 'lesser car' - he probably would have been given a rush trip to the hospital as opposed to just calling his wife to come and get him.

We agreed to the sale yesterday and will follow through this morning with the actual transaction (both of us driving to a mid point precluded actually taking care of that then...)

I'll miss this car. I still miss the 300SD we had before this one also.

Oh - Full price FWIW....
