Has anyone used a muffler patch kit?

So I'm looking at a car with a small hole in the muffler. Makes the car louder, doesn't really affect anything else, but probably won't pass VA safety inspection.

New muffler = $360 or so DIY. Muffler patch kit = $4.

Do these things work, even temporarily? Will it be enough to satisfy the average safety inspection tech? Any experience?

$360 for a muffler? Is this an e46 m3?

Those patches work okay...sometimes.

Um, mufflers aren't cheap in general. This is an e34 525i. I've never seen a BMW muffler for less than a few hundred bucks.

You can't just use a Magnaflow or some Midas brand?

Please just tell me this isn't a dark green, automatic E34 525i. It seems like 90% of the E34s out there are dark green, automatic 525i's.

It is a

dark green

5-SPEED

E34 525i.

It was the first decent stick E34 I found. By "decent," let's just say my standards were not close to what they were for my M3s. But my budget was not close, either.

No, that's great. While that particular green is very 1990s, at least it's a stick.

I have to assume the interior is tan, right?

blee,

My parents (with a lot of prodding from me) recently acquired a 1995 525i. It's a slushy, but what a great car. Ours is black with what used to be very light grey leather.
