problems with a trailblazer

My wife's brother has a 2002ish Chevy Trailblazer (total POS) that is having a weird set of problems. For the last couple of weeks, his hvac fan hasn't worked at all. There is heat, but it just won't blow out. The car also won't let him shift from 2wd into 4wd. I suggested maybe fuses, but it seems weird the fan thing comes and goes, and the 4wd thing may as well due to the rarely-used nature of that option.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start on this?

Thanks in advance!

Both of these issues sound electrical.

A quick google search calls up a lot of hits on 02 TB's for HVAC and transfer control switch issues.

Good luck

The transfer control switch issue has been a problem for years with small GM 4WD models. Generally once you replace the switch you fix the problem.

In addition to the switch, there was also a problem with the servo used to make the 2wd 4wd change over in the transfer case.

If your brother's trailblazer had this servo noise (back when 4wd worked) and did not have it checked by GM, the servo may have failed completely now.

I got nothing for the fan switch.

My biggest trailblazer gripe, when my wife owned one, was the transmission. The third time it left us stranded we left it at the dealer it was towed to and just paid out the last three months of our lease

I just remember the trailblazer loaner that I had as the worst one I've gotten. What a piece of junk. The only saving grace was that 4LO gave it enough guts to move around town. Barely.

...needless to say, it didn't drive the same by the time I handed it back four days later.
