Can someone recommend a good socket to remove lug nuts
I need to buy a 22 mm socket to change out the Corvette wheels to my winter set up, I want a thin walled protective socket. I found a few on Amazon but when reading the reviews, some either cracked easily or the paint from the socket came off onto the wheel.

I like the plastic coated ones to avoid scratching. Porsche 19mm wide and quite deep lug nut holes are especially easy to mar. I use the two below with no issues now for six years. The 17mm sees more use but I'm not a heavy user (track days), just winter on/off and occasional other stuff.

I bought these in 22mm for the LR4. They have the (Nylon/Delrin?) plastic sleeve to protect the wheels.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...e?ie=UTF8&th=1 I've these for many years, but the kit is missing the 22mm. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But FYI, I do not use these if I fear some gorilla overtorqued the bejeezus out of the lugs. I will carefully use proper impact sockets in that scenario. I don't trust these fancy plastic-sleeved ones unless I know I properly torqued my wheels. The walls are thin. |

Yeah, thin wall is thin wall. They’re fundamentally weaker. It’s a trade, and they should be looked at as disposable.

Another option is just to buy a thin-wall impact socket and wrap it in painter's tape. I've been using the same Cornwell socket for 20 years and it has held up fine.

I bought a set of the thin wall (nylon sleeved) sockets at Harbor Freight a few years ago. They have worked fine the few times I have used them.
These (I think) are what I have.... https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-...ece-69781.html
