Same here - all my recent batteries were AGM's from Costco.

On a side note - I found that the selection at my local store was way above what they showed available via the online battery finder tool... Both for standard and AGM equivalent for a given fitment.

My 981S battery is coming up on 9 years. It measures great and starts well. This car is parked in my one spot that has power so in the winter, if it doesn't get driven, it's on a tender at least every two weeks. Not sure how the first owner kept it in years 0 to 3.

My 340i is at six years and beginning to give warning signs. I'm getting a battery low warning on a few of the coldest days of the year. I've found in the f30 forum that bmw 'tuned' the battery warning extremely conservatively, so folks in Canada e.g. get the warning on a regular basis, even with brand new cars. I fully charged the battery but the warning cropped up after a week.

The f10 535i only made it to seven years. I remember about seven for the e39's as well.

My 987's battery lasted nine years with no issues (regularly on a Tender) until giving out with absolutely no warning.

Yep - I used to average about that (8 to 10 years) with batteries as well.
Not so much any longer. New batteries don't last as long as the ones they replaced - IMO.

Yep, same here. OE batteries seem to last a long time if they're maintained. Aftermarket ones, not so much.

I'll keep a (closer) eye on the porsche. It makes sense that 9 years is pushing it.

The battery killer for me have been large 2-cylinder motorcycles. My 2012 bmw r1200r killed a few, even though it was never left to go dead. The most fun symptom of the battery going bad was that its analog speedo and rpm started reading double. I was wondering how I was getting up to 55-60mph in residential areas. The 2017 r1200r, water-cooled, seems to be stronger in the battery and easier in the start department, let's hope it stays that way. The 4-cyl Z always started on first tick; bit of a japanese bike quality as well.

My 2018 ktm is on the same bad list with its 1301cc engine. The big twins have hard starts in the cold. Even with regular riding and charging, it has a slow cold start after only 1-2 weeks. Battery is less than a year old Yuasa .

So, anyone have a battery tender recommendation?

Got the dreaded "battery discharge" message on the 2 when I drove it this morning. Admittedly it's been sitting for awhile.

Possibly it's not worth buying one if I can keep it going until my service appointment in two weeks. But, that's a bit of a gamble...
