Lemming really nailed it. The experience of this car is hard to put into words, and by modern standards it has a lot of flaws. Hell, it was an anachronism when it was new, and that was nearly 30 years ago.

In all fairness, a couple of anecdotes —just to square the narrative.

Took the 993 cabrio once down to CT from Boston. And the electric roof motor failed. So I had to hold the roof closed the entire drive home because it failed right before fully closing. That was $800 in 2002 dollars. Cannot imagine the cost now.

Also took the 993 cabrio up to ME. And got stuck on the way home in fully stopped traffic. It was about 12 miles of full on dead stop traffic (in the days before the automated toll booths at the MA/NH border —fuck you New Hampshire you rip off artists) —and the oil temps were deep into the red. Like oil cracking temps possibly. It was not super fun.

Just some things to consider before pulling the trigger. You also probably want to grab an OBD-I car and not an OBD-II car. (Ask NickM3).

Yeah, I mean it looks awful top up or down. Reminds me of a super beetle in a way

You know what? Renting this car is perfect. It would be hard to live with as a quasi-daily, I’d have nowhere to keep it, and it would cost a mint to maintain.

But for three days in the Malibu canyons I literally can’t imagine a better choice. What a trip.

I feel similarly about second homes, after living the experience.

What is up with the admiration for older 911 cabs? Just curious.

I've never driven one but after hearing the feedback on it I want to though I think I'd really prefer a Coupe.
