Yep, I did some reading since the first post. Close the air vents, steel wool in the tail pipes, cedar chips or mint fragrance to deter the little bastards.
I might just rent Nate's dog for the winter and leave him in the garage w/ the car.

From personal experience, you should also think about rodents in the frunk and the area in between the frunk and the rest of the car. Not sure what the 991s look like there, but in the 987/997, it’s where the battery and cabin air filter are. Lots of little crevasses in there where rodents can find a home.

That car cover looks cool ... I am debating whether to switch out the 911’s wheels for winter this year ... last year was so mild and so far this year seems to be too.

I wouldn't do anything if you don't typically get mice in your garage. Since getting new garage doors that seal properly I don't get them anymore, but I still have traps around. That's better insurance than anything you can do to the car. I think this is probably what you have, but you want to use a maintenance charger, not a trickle charger. Battery tenders and the like are maintenance chargers. Trickle chargers = battery destroyers. |

People generally like the CTEK chargers. Which are also what Porsche has sold from the factory. I can't speak to any other ones.
Other than to say that I'd avoid Battery Tender brand tenders. If the car is affirmatively away for the winter, I'd consider pulling the battery. Move it somewhere climate controlled and it likely won't even need to be on a tender. And having had batteries boil over on tenders, I'd rather they do that not in the car.

I've maintained my stuff with the same two Battery Tenders for over ten years, no issues at all. What's to avoid? One of them even lives outside on my zero turn, has been covered in snow and still works
edit... longer than that. The one hooked up to the RX-8 right now has a 2003 date code Last edited by John V; 12-06-2020 at 08:54 PM. |
