Of course, the 997.2 is a sweet spot for me as well and would happily get back into one, 6-speed and hardtop being mandatory. S would be better, as it's not just the engine but usually have PASM and other performance niceties. That said, the 3.6 made for those 3 years is stout, torquey and geared better than the 991's (and 981's) so feels sufficient, just less likely to be paired with better suspension and diff.

Woof. The 996 continues to not age well.

I like the 996 as well.
The 911 SC/Carrera is a somewhat more appealing car (to me). But - While the 996 is decent, the late 60's & early 70's is very much the pinnacle - IMO.

If you really want to drive the point home, take the picture from the front. That's where the 996 styling really falls apart.

I mean, the 996 actually looks pretty good from that angle, IMO. It actually makes the 993 look even odder because the overhangs / short wheelbase make it look a bit like a clown car.

Thoughts on this 991?
It's an early 991.1 but seems to have the right options. Boring color, but I actually like agate grey:
https://www.grandprimotors.com/used/...c10925e67b.htm The lack of pics is odd (just 3 exterior and 1 interior shot that looks Stuka-like). I drove almost this exact car about 5 years ago and really liked it (was even the same color combo). I didn't have an issue w/ the 7 speed manual or the early EPS steering. Given how crazy the used market is in general and the 911 market in particular I'm surprised its not already sold (makes me think there's probably some issue i'm not aware of). |
