Yeah, but you have a 2 seat convertible, so "practicality" is clearly not your primary gating concern.

For those that can't have a 2 seat convertible, the boxlike package of the GTI is much more attractive than the skimpy coupe body of the Si, especially once the 4 door comes out.

Also, give me a VAG 2.0T over a buzzbomb Honda VTEC engine all day, every day.

, prefer the Si if it was a hatchback. LSD is nice in the civic but they are still both FWD so performance is always limited with them.

the GTI v. the Si is really an interesting discussion. if you read the article, the test drivers are hard pressed to find a dynamic area where the GTI really surpasses the Si. The Si won anything that had to do with dynamics but lost on all of the practical issues.

so, i can really understand why someone would choose the Si over the GTI as purely OEM products. that said, i have a sneaking suspicion that chip tuners are going to broaden the performance (straightline) difference between the two cars rather easily.

Practicality is definitely lacking in the Si.

But YIKES. It's 300lbs lighter than the GTI. I'd like to drive both of them.
