A fun little drag race from Throttle House.
https://youtu.be/RMHPAj4cxMc M240i, Golf R, S3 - All three newer versions. The one thing I see here is that these used to compete but I see a price delta happening with the BMW once you start adding options. You need to pay up for the extra perfomance and bigger engine. I fear this may also be the case with the upcoming G87. We now know the RS3 pricing is up into the mid 60’s. I think the G87 will move much more up market in pricing this time around. It is stating with the same engine as the M3/4 this time, although maybe detuned again, so the price will reflect that. I am think a few options and 70K all day long. If so I think there will be less buyers.

The fuel efficiency is impressive! The performance is insane, honestly, though I think we’re all getting numb to 12 second cars in the quarter because of EVs. And as someone bored, there is a huge fall off in the rolling start times, which means the car won’t feel as fast in the real world as you might think (3.6 seconds v 5).
Still, impressive. Too bad about it being auto only. |

On the 0-60 times I read somewhere that the M240i’s launch control pre spools the turbo’s and up’s the boost which is why rolling start times fall off.

Another thought, if BMW will not offer an manual in the Z4 M40i there is no way the will offer one in the M240.

Yeah the rolling start vs standing start discrepancies are often quite large in turbo charged cars - I think that’s why they started posting them. Plus with more advanced traction and launch control systems automakers have more tools at their disposal to game 0-60 times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
