No. And honestly the range of my P85D on 21” Super Sports was still pretty impressive; less than the 85 on 19” Primacys, but not that much less.

Range on the Model 3 Performance is a complete lie. It has significantly shorter range than the same car with the aero wheels and rock hard tires.

I was going to make this analogy as well. The Taycan is the new Boxster

"Sure your Tesla is better at stop light racing, but my car can actually go around corners"

But that argument is easier to swallow for a Boxster because it doesn't cost $151k.

I was thinking 911 or Panamera, both of which are priced comparably at the Turbo / Turbo S trim level.

I’m genuinely puzzled about everyone trying to talk about value for money in the Porsche context. Porsche was always going to deliver a really expensive car that’s way nicer, but not necessarily at the top of every spec chart, for a fuckton of money.

And everyone is focusing on the $151k number as if that’s the cheapest a Taycan will sell for. Again, not that it’s going to be cheap, but a base 911 starts at $113k. So you’ve got a lot of price spread for when Porsche brings a Taycan, Taycan S, Taycan 4S, etc. to market.

Or, take a look at the Panamera price chart for comparison. Note that the Panamera Turbo is also priced at $151k.

Edit: This makes me think that there really is a strong chance that a base Taycan lists under $100k.

Makes sense. I think many of us though that they would position the taycan below the panamera (to fill the Porsche midsize sedan niche). But given the cost of developing a new platform and battery tech I guess that wasn’t feasible. So basically it’s now a smaller, electric alternative to a panamera.

I thought Porsche would eventually offer a smaller sedan to compete with the M3 but maybe that market is not profitable enough. I suspect the same may be the case with their EV's.

I suspect we'll have to wait until Mercedes/BMW/Audi offer performance EV's to get a competitor to the Model 3.

Assuming that anyone actually bothers to ship a small sedan at all. I wouldn’t be shocked if they just don’t.

I doubt they will cede the market segment to Tesla entirely. Model 3 is already making waves and possibly/actually stealing sales.

They will if they think that the sedan market is basically dead and that all buyers really want is an SUV mix.
