2022 BMW i4 M50 - This is why I sold the M3
https://www.autoblog.com/2022/06/10/...ct_source=pitc
Seems like it would scorch the M3 in real-life driving as a daily driver around town and in the highway. |

Seems compelling. Any BMW that doesn't have the terrible automatic is a good choice.
I'm disappointed by the fact they're still sharing an ICE platform, though, which negates the key packaging benefits that EVs offer. At least it's a hatch. I'm also not super impressed with the range figures for a car with an 84 kWh battery. Oh, and this: "My ears judge the BMW’s “Iconic” powertrain sound, designed by movie composer Hans Zimmer, as the best of current EVs; in part because they actually sound like bassy BMW engine notes, with a roboticized sci-fi flourish." But this could be a realistic alternative to the Model 3; might be a good replacement. EDIT: But also there's this: https://twitter.com/johnvoelcker/sta...5N0tetLSY-U_wA |

Let me be clear that I don’t mean to say I want to buy THAT BMW. Just pointing out that EVs will make for a better vehicle for the use I gave the M3. They will be faster in real life. I’m sure in another 2-3 years there will be better options.

I’d love to have an EV as my second car right now, but as my only car, I am going to wait.
I do keep eyeing used i3s as a possible vehicle for my kid, but they are priced too high for that use case. Even used Leaf’s (Leaves?) are too pricey. And why is it that among the cheapest new cars you can buy is a Jetta sedan with a stick? |

No, no. I still want a Boxster or Miata, I am keeping our dinosaur V8 Land Rover, and we are never selling the GTI. I just think that for the role of fast car around town or for boring commutes, an EV would be great. There is also energy and propulsion diversification to consider.
