Chevy Equinox

Drove a base Chevy Equinox all week. Not a bad vehicle. But, wow, when I got back into the 4 GC, everything felt so stiff and heavy—even in comfort mode. That is, for awhile. Then it felt great!

Like two different worlds…

It did remind me that I really do enjoy being higher up on the highway. But, around town it’s too big a sacrifice. And around town is 90% of my driving.

I really like the GM SUV’s, I always found them comfortable and smooth.

I can really see owning one when we eventually get a second home in Florida.

With a few more features, it would be just fine for an extra car. This one was very bare bones. I’m sure there are higher lines that are not part of a rental fleet. Amusingly, there were about five of the exact same SUV (same color, too) in my hotel parking lot. I tried to get into a wrong one. LOL.

Years ago (1980's) I and a business partner were at Spring Comdex in Atlanta. Our hotel had valet parking. Drove back from setting up at the show around 1 AM, handed the keys to the valet, got food and crashed.

Next morning, still bleary-eyed, we went to the valet station. Handed over the valet stub. White Ford somethingorother? Yup. Got in the car, drove back to the show. Opened the trunk - no tools inside. The valet stole our tools?!?! Nope - he gave us the wrong car. We figured he'd just adjusted the seat when he parked it and that's why the seat and mirror settings were wrong.

Yep! Isn’t that the whole shtick in “Meet the Fockers”? A white Taurus, I think…

Chevy really neutered the Equinox; not clear to me why, but maybe it’s to make space for the Blazer? In any event, they discontinued the 2 liter engine and 9 speed transmission and the remaining 1.5T sounds pretty basic.

I guess they figured their core customer doesn’t care.

Since their core customer seems to be Enterprise, they’re probably right about that.

I kind of liked it better than the Outback I had last time, even though the latter was more plush. But it was seriously underpowered trying to haul up the hill to the Charleston, WV, airport with another passenger and luggage.

Also its shifter has Low gear right below Drive, and I always seemed to start off there. With the BMW, you pull the shifter all the way down to hit Drive. Having to pay attention and stop just before Low is not great UI.
