Well - Learning to drive (the mechanics of it) is one thing. Being responsible and making correct choices, that is an entirely different activity.

That could have been a 40 year old idiot trying to do the same stupid thing.
IMO has nothing to do with being a kid - has everything to do with being stupid.

That would be true, except that it's well documented that the PFC and hippocampus aren't fully developed until somewhere around 25 years old.

That's not to say that all teens make bad decisions behind the wheel or that all older people make good ones. It's just that the probability distribution function is shifted.

My son is 17 next week, and has been begging to borrow my car. Um, no.

And, ditto, JST, my son has a Mazda non-turbo so he does not have to borrow the Tesla 3 Performance nor my BMW with almost 400 hp.

The M3 is a lot of car for anyone, but as a general matter it’s too much car for a 17 year old.

It was cool and wet in the video, so traction wasn’t the best, but you can see in the video that it’s the rear end that comes loose first on the M3. The driver was on the power coming through that corner, at what were already crazy high speeds. And while DSC can’t always save you, I’d also bet they had the DSC off yo.

Oy. Nice to have all season tires and FWTW. But you can still turn off DSC.

Yeah, DSC was almost certainly off. It will not let you power on oversteer like that with it on. The cloud of smoke from the rear while sideways is a good indicator.
