LOL.

My life doesn’t always make sense. Multiple cities. Multiple residences. It’s too boring to explain. I just needed something extra in LA.

This link is great perspective for how much faster cars have gotten. And the other perseveration threads too. That’s a lot in the CPO space if one can relent and go with PDK, which as it turns out is not so terrible when compared to true automatics.

After spending a little time driving in LA, I understand the need for something kind of boring for commuting duties. What a shitty place to drive, and how weird it is that there’s no other way to get around.

I am pushing 150k on mine. I don't know how long I will keep it, but so far, so good - reliability wise.

Then again - mine is a base 2006 model.. so less $$ to worry about than some others.

In the theme of this thread and more disclosure, I had been looking into a 1980s SC or G body 911 recently. But it’s just a lot to keep up with a car like that —although they are less cranky if driven a lot.

To your point.

I was also looking at 996s since they seem to be achievable now. But the post-purchase maintenance is an upsetting amount of money.

I’m keeping the mileage down on the cars as the quid pro quo with the dealer. Basically, keep them as valued trade-in’s that can command easy re-sale so that they can help me get allocation. It would not be super popular for me to show up in the T with 35,000 miles even though at this point it’s 6 years old.

They are harder to move. That is why my ex-coworker got the deal on the 997TT he later sold to me. 60k miles at 2 yo when he bought it, and then 80k miles at 5 yo when I bought it from him.

Looks like C&D got 3.9 out of my car spec:

Crazy fast.

And good point about xDrive, which I have. Could be faster still than the C&D test. Did not drill down to see if their number was for RWD 440i.

It won’t surprise you to learn that the 959 was the fastest car they tested in the 80s, and for those of us that grew up then, the rest of the list isn’t that shocking either (though I was a little surprised about how fast the 512BB was). With all the talk here about how the 964s aren’t that quick by modern standards it’s also fascinating to see the ‘89 Carrera 4 make the list.

Speaking of modern standards, it’s also wild that my current fleet (other than the Jetta) all accelerate faster than most of the cars on this list and even give the 959 a run for it’s money; the Tesla launches harder, gets to 60 half a second faster, and even clears the quarter quicker (though it’s trap speed is slightly lower); the BMW struggles with traction but though it’s 4/10s behind at the 1/4 it’s actually got a higher trap speed than the 959.

But maybe the most surprising one for me was the Boxster. Despite its traction disadvantage (which helps explain it being 2/10s of a second slower to 60), it has the same 1/4 time as the 959 and even a higher trap speed.

Cars have gotten really fast.
Also interesting how close the 959 is to the current Carrera 4S in terms of drivetrain/performance/weight/etc

Can it be any shittier than NJ? It's been years since I drove in LA and not having alternatives absolutely sucks.... However, driving in busier parts of NJ is genuinely as bad or worse than "so called" third world countries. It's sooo bad around here that I drive as little as possible. My other hobby, motorcycling, even less.
