Also, you say “very few,” but I challenge you to find *one* extant new car that you can buy today that is actually comparable and sold in this country.
What I was getting at is if an E91 manual M-sport is the ONLY CAR that scratches your particular itch, your requirements MAY be a little over-constrained.

If not, well, you're going to be parting with a lot of money.

What is the cheaper alternative? I’m even willing to throw out the rear drive requirement.

About the only logical alternative that I can see is the GTI 5-door. But it doesn’t really have a trunk, IIRC, and it’s not *that* much less money.

Closest is probably whichever version of the Golf/Alltrack wagon is still available w/ a stick.

Based on my manual e46 sport package wagon that I owned, I agree with John V. If they made a M3 wagon that would be a different story.

The Golf Alltrak costs about the same as the EAG E91, has 60hp less (we’re complaining about how slow the N52 is, right?), and will depreciate rapidly. Also, if we are shitting on E90 M-Sport handling, how exactly do we think that the Alltrak will handle?

I don’t feel like this is a compelling case against the E91.

GTI is an easy choice. And it's not that much less, but it's new. $30k for an eight year old BMW that is objectively not special is silly.

CTS-V wagons can be had for $30k and it'll kick the E91's teeth in and take its lunch money.

If you really must have a wagon, there are any number of Mercedes that will scratch that itch. I think Jag makes an XF wagon as well now? There's the Buick thingy as well.

Or you could buy a Mazda 3, which comes in a hatchback (which let's be honest is a wagon), has a stick, and can be bought for, what, $25k? With a warranty. And it'll run forever. And has a much nicer interior than an E91. Compared to an E91, I'm willing to bet it's just as fast in day to day driving.

Again, I understand that if you over-constrain your list of requirements to wagon + stick + rear wheel drive + BMW, this is the only answer.

My big issue with the E91 wagon is that the wagon part just doesn’t add that much utility. I suppose if you have dogs it’s a good choice over a sedan, but are you going to put your dogs in the $30k unicorn you just bought from EAG?

There are five manual examples listed on Autotrader now. One 2011 with 110k miles for $31,500 but the newer lower mile examples are $50s or $60s.

This one in Austin looks pretty nice....

If you can afford to spend $30k on an E91 wagon, I suspect you will have no problem doing this.

That’s pretty pricey. How much were they new?
