UGH that sucks. Assuming you got a police report - will this show up on Carfax? If so you should pursue a diminished value payment after you get the car repaired. Believe you can collect from your own carrier under the uninsured motorist coverage in VA.

Holy sh*t that sucks on so many levels. What do you even do? File a police report and work with your own insurance company?

Yes, either a collision claim on your own policy (you are on hook for the deductible) or if your state has it, you file a “uninsured motorist property damage” claim.

VA law bars increasing rates as a result of an accident where the driver is not at fault, so hopefully this won’t bump my rates. But yeah, I’m on the hook for the deductible.

Ugh, I would have just walked away, told the guy it's his lucky day and painted the bumper on my own dime. It's sub <$1000 and won't shop up in paintmeter or police reports that way. Not to mention insurance raising risk..
I'm filling horrible release forms today so the State of NJ will kindly pay my $1000 deductible for the door they punched on my 340i. Will see what insurance rates I'll face and it will surely go on the fax. I had no choice as the repair was about $2.5k total. |

First the failed carjacking and now this. WTAF?
I have no advice. I'm just still amazed at the situation. |

Took it in for an estimate this morning. Body shop guy says it can be fixed and cosmetically it will look fine, but replacing the bumper cover is probably the right move since the cover was punctured. Waiting on pricing.
