You might just do a national search for the car you want. We always seem to have some in ATL. Looks like we only have one right now, but I have seen more at any given time:

Or you could step up to the RS6 Avant:

Or wait for the M5 wagon...

Nice find- that's almost exactly what I want (other than slight preference for brown vs black interior). I guess it wouldn't hurt to reach out and ask. Assuming shipping to west coast wont be cheap (and I dont really have time for a cross country drive). Often the cars marked "in transit" are already spoken for.

As for the RS6 and M5 wagon- those are both way outside my budget. Plus I dont think I'd really want something like that as a daily driver. Sure it'd be cool for cars and coffee and I love the way the RS6 looks but those high performance or "super wagons" don't really make sense to me unless you live in Germany and can regularly do high speed autobahn runs.

[EDIT: turns out that one is already spoken for]

So, I continue to lurch toward buying an A6 Allroad. It's now a 2024 model and will likely arrive by end of year. One unfortunate change is that they've removed the 5 spoke wheels from the black optic package...still think i'll keep it because i prefer blacked out trim to the aluminum. Still can't find anything else that I like better overall (that doesn't cost over 100k). But, after seeing some recent pics on an Audi forum, I'm starting to question my color choice. I"d specced "manhattan grey" because it blends with the painted wheel arches (which are the same color w/ the Black optic package), but I so slightly prefer the blue. Just not sure how I feel about it with the grey wheel arches (they are both dark colors so am concerned that its sort of halfway between a contrast and a full match...meaning that it may kind of clash). What do you guys think of the blue vs the grey? (and, yes, I full appreciate that several of you will feel that both these colors are boring and possibly so close as to make no difference... but I like conservative colors on cars like this).
grey:

blue:

Another shot of the blue that brings out the contrast more:

The blue reminds me a bit of BMW's carbon black which is one of my favorite colors.

Have you entered a custom order and are just waiting for a build date, or are you looking for one to pop up at a dealer? Just curious how long waiting lists are, etc.

I’ve had an order in since January - still waiting for a build date but finally got an actual allocation . Dealer thinks it will arrive by end of year. So roughly a year. You can find the occasional one in stock but they tend to be base trim in silver. I looked recently and it seemed all the allroads that appeared in inventory were marked as “reserved”.

I do think there’s a bigger appetite here for wagons than these manufacturers realize - apparently the RS6 has exceeded expectations despite costing 120k+!

I think the manufacturers (intentioally?) shoot themselves in the foot with wagons. They seem to either bring over the insane e63/rs6/m5 level of wagon, uber-basic underpowered 4cyl a4/3series or jacked up all-road types. I'd love for them to bring back a 540 wagon (or better yet a hybrid 50e drivetrain like JST's x5) that can be spec'ed for sport/touring use. I read the 5 wagon is coming back for the next gen of 5 series, so we'll see if that happens.

I would be very much on board for a plug-in hybrid 5 wagon—if they don’t hobble the handling.
