Drove the Subaru WRX
So today on my way into the office I get a call from my best buddy that his son is at the Subaru dealer which happens to be right by my office and is really interested in a 2017 WRX with almost 36k miles, would I mind going to check it out and test drive it since his son doesn’t drive a manual and my friend hasn’t driven one in 15 years.
I headed right over to the dealer and went with his son and the salesman for a test drive ... first off this is a cool car, it looks really cool, the seats really feel nice and grippy, it has an old school turbo feel to it. The clutch felt a drop harder and grips a little harder then I expected from a Japanese car though still on the lighter side, the transmission feels old school not notchy but just old schoolish. When you hit it the turbo kicks in in that old school turbo rush, there is some slight lag at first then it kicks in majorly sending the car into a big rush, it bounces around a bit during shifts and I noticed the engine is a little flat at the higher rpms... sounds like i’m not having fun but I am ... the car just feels good and feels like it wants to be driven ... it definitely has an enthusiasts feel ... plus for the $22k they paid this car it is a bargain. I would love to spend some time with it to get to learn how to drive it smoothly. Btw I should add my driving impressions were from driving it home ... they ended up purchasing the car and I met my friend at the dealer and he drove my 540 home and I drove the WRX. It was about a 20 minute ride ... I then took his son for some lessons on driving a stick, I think i’m the worst manual transmission teacher though I tried my best. Like I said above what a bargain this car is and it was nice he found a nice OEM without modifications ... just a nice clean car. |

Cool. I haven't driven a WRX in ages. I really liked the 2011 WRX Hatch I drove, I actually liked it better than the same year STI (better torque curve, more street friendly suspension).

nice car for a teenager.
I assume this has the newer 2.0T not 2.5T which is supposed to have less lag |

I'm obviously many standard deviations from the normal, but I *like* turbo engines with some lag. I want to be able to drive around boost if I so choose. The modern engine with boost kicking in just off idle, but not instantaneously kills me.

Edit; I sold my wrx to a local high school kid who proceeded to burn up the clutch and I think crashed it. |

Yep. I know what you mean. Having like 3k RPM worth of "lag" can be fun whereas 500 RPM of lag is annoying.
