Keeping the Miata wasn't one of the things you said you were torn between, though--you said you weren't sure whether to get the Camaro or the Mustang. As between the two, the only argument that the Camaro had going for it was its engine, and that's been taken away now.

Mustang = Mildly attractive, but mostly unremarkable, divorced late 30s mom next door that's just interested in a fuck buddy. And cooks. And brings beer...and occasionally a younger and more attractive friend.

But, whatever... These are the practical considerations: 1. Does it make stupid power? Camaro: yes Mustang: yes 2. Does it have a back seat that children may use on rare occasions? Camaro: yes Mustang: yes 3. Will it fit in my garage? Camaro: yes Mustang: yes 4. Is it likely to be reasonably reliable for 2-5 years? Camaro: yes Mustang: yes 5. Is it within my budget? Camaro: yes Mustang: yes 6. Does it have active online communities centered on it? Camaro: yes Mustang: yes 7. Is it likely to make me smile often? Camaro: yes Mustang: yes So, with all of that squared away, it comes down to much less objective measures. The Camaro has some pretty big negatives, primarily size and weight (which I don't care about *too* much). The Camaro's 20" wheels are an ass sucker, but the Mustang could have the same problem. OTOH, the Camaro's looks drives a primal lust in my heart that will probably last a couple more years, while my similar feelings about the current Mustang were never quite as substantial and have passed their peak. I've had 5 V8 Mustangs in the (ever more distant) past. While hitting an even half dozen has some mental appeal, I'd never get to pretend in my head that I'm John Cusack rolling down the suburban side street in "Better Off Dead." Instead, I'd be "Spencer for Hire."

The Camaro is like one of Tiger Wood's mistresses - might be fun but you'd have to be able to get past the trailer park-ness of it all to enjoy it. |

As the grandfather of a former friend once yelled at me, "Boy, you don't know what's good!"
