Yeah. Notwithstanding all the work that I’ve done, everything done has been by choice. I’ve never been forced into fixing something by a failure (other than a couple minor bugs).

And yes, I can top yours - my stereo would reset, but only when approaching Cincinnati from the west. The problem is that the StealthOne V1/NAV screen integration sends messages very rapidly (doesn't rate-limit them) when the V1 status changes, and the Blitzsafe adapter for the Phatbox (the Phatbox is an Alpine M-bus - old BMW style - changer interface) just goes out to lunch and reboots when it sees constant bus traffic. That was one of a few things that was odd with the StealthOne - at one point I was driving around Boston with both StealthOne guys in my trunk with notebook PCs doing bus protocol analysis. Good thing I have a wagon. |

Fun fact: I have achieved weight savings in this diagnostic process by removing the CD changer. I did the door lock actuator because people have reported very similar issues with a bad one. The actuator runs through the window switch, and it's apparently not uncommon for a failure to cause "unusual" front window behavior specifically. In retrospect, I'm not sure why I didn't try unplugging the AVIN first, though. It's got its tentacles pretty far into the car.

First road trip in the X5 last weekend. We went to Michigan.
We were actually able to get baby AND both puppies in the car along with our luggage. If we were actually taking the puppies on a longer trip, I think that we'd probably need a hitch carrier. We had enough space in the trunk for Mika to ride comfortably, but Harry ended up in the passenger front footwell. He wasn't a fan of 5th gear. The M54 really loves to just ride the torque peak on the highway. This translates to just under 90mph at 3,500rpms.

Sounds great, Nick. The e53s definitely aren't huge at all. I recall the X3 being very similar in usable space when it came out.

Excellent.
Considering what rental cars cost these days, it's great to avoid the cost, if you can. |
