What I know of NCs is that they hold up extremely well. The suspension on them was improved a ton in 2009, reducing the awful body roll of the earlier cars. The sway bar up front is something I think you'd want anyway, so it's nice that this one comes with it (it is no fun at all to swap a front bar on these).

The LSD won't make any more noise than an open diff on this car.

If he ran SCCA street tire class (the re71 is THE hot autox tire right now) then all he could really change are the bars, shocks, and brake pads. edit: and the exhaust aft of the catalytic converter.

If he was active in the SCCA, JV probably knows somebody who knows this guy.

Good to know. His name is Brent. I'll see if I can find his last name.

Edit: Got it. Under "CS-C Street"

Well, that explains a lot. It does have the suspension pkg as well, which comes with the LSD and Bilsteins.

Like I said, I was pretty happy with how sporty it was.

The noise on decel could be lots of things. Most likely if it sounds like it's from the rear diff would be the pinion bearing. LSD issues would be most likely found by doing tight figure 8's in a parking lot.

Or ask Clyde about a rock in the tire....

I think the tires would explain the noise that you heard. I've driven the RE71R tires extensively for the past couple years, and they are noisy (compared to other summer/all-seasons) once they have even a little wear. I've actually never driven an NC, but this one looks like a great deal to me. I guess everyone is upping to the ND?

I don't recognize the car from the big events I've done recently (same class as me), but I would not hesitate to purchase if I were in the market for an NC.

Probably. There's another one for sale on an RRAX, but no heated seats.

I don't recognize the name or the car which means he probably didn't do any of the National events on the east coast. Either way, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a car that had been autocrossed a bit in stock(ish) form.

Looks like he won CS at Devens in 2011 over 10 other names I don't recognize. He was about 0.1 behind Danny in his WRX for reference.

I'm sure the tires are having a major impact on the car's feel and any harshness. A slightly less aggressive tire is likely to be quieter and comfier without giving up anything you need on the street.

Agree with bren on the noise speculation.

80k miles, a couple small dents, rock chips on nose and too much Armor All (any Armor All is too much, though, really, right? Except for that upholstery spot remove bren turned me on to.) are the only care and condition concerns beyond the dif?

Worst case replacement of the LSD is maybe $1,200 in parts? I'd probably do some searching for internet diagnostics on the noise, too.
