A friend of mine in college had an early Scirocco (maybe a 79 or 80?). Stick of course. Dark blue. It was great fun to drive.

I was always more partial to the styling of the 16V GTIs, which these days are somehow even rarer than the Sciroccos. But for the time the Scirocco was a cool fucking car, especially in black 16V form. |

He's been at Toyota Racing Design for a while now. I wonder if he has a camry that he drives like he did the old VW now... EDIT: Also, there is an '84 GTI for sale on P-Car with an awesome interior: https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/d...vw-rabbit-gti/

Those blue (and also the red) interiors on the mk 1 GTIs were wild. That’s a really well preserved example, will get big money.
I dig the idea of a 16V GTI or scirocco or similar, but for the amount nice ones go for I think I’d rather do something different, like a Pug 205 GTi, now that those can be imported. But I don’t really see myself doing that; cool to have but doesn’t fit into my life right now. |

Speaking of VWs: A Porsche 914 on BaT is getting some funny comments.
I do love the color... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...bGz5X1He9z1sVI |

That color is amazing. Trying to imagine owning the same car for 44 years...
I guess only 33 to go for me. |

My best friend bought one of these new a few years after college in 1998 as his first car. Back then it stickered at $22k and we thought that was a lot of money. The car was amazing. (especially compared to my 1997 Ford Contour Sport. I miss that era of Honda/Acura.
For me this would be an incredibly fun car to have for under $10k today. Especially one that looks to be mostly stock. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...tegra-gs-r-11/
