Congrats, hopefully you can curb the e36 remorse with the boat loads of torque from two german V8s and 8 tail pipes. I like the m5 license plate, did you come up with something creative for the merc yet?

Hey Josh we have been looking here and there for a few months but ultimately I did not get the last word on the purchase since its not primarily my car. I have to say I do like driving it so far.

I think I will always miss the E36. It was just one of those cars I really liked.

As for the plate, I had the same one for the E46 with a 3 in place of the 5. We just started talking today about possibilities for the Merc.

I have to say I think used is the way to go for me from now on. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.

Hope the E39 is running well!!

Congratulations Theo on the car! That is a beautiful color. It must be a hoot to drive.

Yeah - He did.

Funny thing - Patty and I drove a SLK320 on Saturday.
I have to admit - it is a REALLY nice car.
She's getting really tired of the Yukon and looking for something different.

Her first foray into European cars was with our old 300SD then 420SEL....
She still likes the Mercedes 'feel' -
And I have to admit - the newer Mercedes' fell much more like a traditional Mercedes than the new BMW's....

The time isn't right now - but I think we'll end up with a first generation SLK in our garage at some point. Nice car - and the prices isn't half bad.....

I realize I will get branded as a loser or something for admitting this, but if Mercedes used more manuals, I would shop them seriously. They are really nice places to be inside. They don't drive like BMW's, but they are fine for 99.5% of the driving I do. Which granted, isn't much since I commute on the motorcycle.

We would consider Mercedes as well if they sold more cars with manuals. My wife likes the way they look (I, in general, don't) but the auto only thing is a deal killer for both of us.

+1 on Mercs, I'd consider them if manuals were available. There are the rare c230 sport sedans from the previous generation, and those were quite allright... Though audi trumps them in the awd dept. and bmw wins in rwd sportiness.

The problem with the C230s was that the engine was quite a dog. Otherwise, they were very pleasant to be inside.
