Wheel repair issue.

Ok I need some advice guys.

About a month ago I brought my car in so they could check a few minor things. Upon washing the wheels (M135's) the next morning, I noticed my front left wheel had a nick on one of the spokes (maybe about 1/8-inch long, pretty thin but somewhat deep right on one of the spokes). I knew it had happened while at the dealership.

Bottom line, they said they would fix it. So today I dropped off the car and when I picked it up I noticed they had very nicely smooted everything out but the side of the spoke had something whitish. I figured it was just some powderish residue so I got on the car and came home. So I get home and rub on it to get rid of the "powder" and it doesn't come off. In fact a bit of paint came off.

It seems there is a smudge. Not horribly noticeable but it's there. About the size of a thumb. Also, the general area seems to have lost some of its glossiness (but maybe that's normal). Should I go back and have it fixed... again? I think I should, but maybe I'm being anal.

I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow.

Sounds like an overapplication of the powder used to fill the crack. When I had my rash repaired I had small "specks" like that but they came off when I waxed the wheels. As for the gloss, I would gather they did not do a proper clear coat application.

Sounds similar to how my "repaired" wheel turned out......also done at the dealer; it is now my spare so I don't have to look at it

wow.

i'm amazed that they owned up to it. that's huge, mbr.

but yeah......i can see both sides of it. you ain't being anal because those wheels are wickedly expensive if you had to buy them new from the dealer.

Thanks guys.

I'll give them a call tomorrow. If they are willing to have repaired again, I'll just bring the one wheel in. I don't want them holding on to my car for a whole day again just for that.

The plus side is that you really couldn't tell there was ever any dent/scratch on it at all. Somehow I figured that would be the tough part.

Oh well.

This incident, along with a few cosmetic scars of a full year in New England, reminds me it is just a car, and shit is going to happen to it.

Well, apparently I'm a jackass.

I checked the wheel again this morning before going to work and there is no "smudge" to speak off. It seems I should have just let it dry some more. The wheel looks 95% perfect EXCEPT for the place where I removed paint.

Clearly, there is no reason for me to complain to them. I mean I could, but it would be wrong.

I need to see if I can blend that area neatly maybe with some polish. But it is not very noticeable.

I don't know. The dealership took care of it. Sorry.

I want to find out myself since my winter wheels (M68's) have a couple of nicks.
