Don't be fooled -- top fuel drag racing is every bit as technical as F1, just in very very different areas. If anything, top fuel has an unabashedly American character to it -- make as much power as possible, put it ALL down to the ground, and if you blow up once in a while, you're doing it right. It's pretty awesome, even if you don't love going in a straight line.

I have a friend that works in the Chrysler zone office in Tappen NY. Every year he used to get us pit and tower passes for the Mopar nationals at Englishtown NJ.
We used to be able to get about 40-50 feet away from the starting line for the top fuel and funny cars. At that distance you need serious ear protection, and I can not describe to you how much every part of your body shakes from the exhaust from those engines. Mopar stopped sponsoring the event a few yeas ago, so I haven't gone lately. But back then, they were putting out close to 750 HP per cylinder!!! Nothing more impressive than watching those crews teardown and rebuild a motor in 90 minutes!!
