I actually saw the new 4 series in person the other day with the new grill, the car was a black coupe ... I surprisingly did not think the grill was that bad and I am coming from not being able to stand it in the pictures.

I have to agree. I think the coupe looks fine from just about all angles, but the grille is still a mess. I parked next to one at Starbucks the other day and it was not good. That being said, if some of these bumper/grille alternatives come to market at reasonable enough cost that would solve the problem. However I think the 4 series coupe has just become too big (or the design makes it look too big) - too much space behind the doors, rear end looks really bulky. The sedan just seems to look a lot better.

The E46 was the last 3 series where the coupe looked right. Ever since then, the coupes have had some sort of major proportional flaw, IMO. (Basically a bad rear quarter profile on all of them.)

The high sill lines don't help either. Remember back in the day when you could rest your elbow comfortably on the door sill when the windows were rolled down?
The greenhouses have also gotten smaller, and we need correspondingly more cameras to be able to see around us. I think my 2 series is cute, but it suffers from both of those changes. The result is a more blob-like physique. (But, at least the front grill isn't horrendous..) |

Yes. The high door sill thing is one of my biggest complaints with cars these days. Another is the continued bloat and upsizing. My E36 was pretty much the perfect size for me. A co-worker just took delivery of an M240i and it's a nice size but feels a bit cave-like inside and the driving experience is very isolated.

This is why the sunroof is required.
