2025 BMW Z4 M40i Debuts With Manual Gearbox For $69,950

Nicknamed "Handschalter" (German for "hand shift"), the analog variant commands a significant premium of $3,500

Worth it?

70k is a lot of scratch for that car, but it is significantly cheaper than a Boxster GTS and maybe easier to find.

I assume GTS allocations are impossible to come by. Correct?

Someone here should buy one and sell it to me in 5 years.

I would think you might be able to get one, I had posted my local dealer had allocations for all 718 models from base to S to GTS but that was back when I had my last oil change which I believe was last March.

I don’t know about impossible; I’ve seen ppl say they’ve gotten them recently. And in theory they’ll build them through 2025, at least for the US market.

But yeah, it’s not easy.

Also I don’t know whether to be proud or disappointed that no one has noted that this price is…nice.

For a second, fun car that needs to live outside, I’d have to wait to see what the 2025 anniversary Miata brings…

I thought we had a thread on it somewhere here already, but as you probably guessed I'm a big fan. I could see getting a new one of these to either replace the 911, or just as a daily to replace the 135 in a year or two. When compared to a similar spec'ed boxster, the price is ~2/3rds, right? Early driving reviews have really spoken highly of the chassis tweaks and adjustments to the shift mechanism paying huge dividends - supposedly it feels great. The green launch color tugs at me too. It's like they followed everything I tried to spec in a 992 and gave it to me here.

Definitely worth it.
