ZF8 Swaps

Apparently, this is starting to become a thing.

I do not understand someone doing a ZF8 + S54 swap.

Yeah. I get wanting the ZF8. I do not get wanting to put that behind an S54. Why on earth wouldn’t you pick any one of the turbo motors for that swap?

People are very stupid and can’t drive sticks but want to show off their ITBs?

Wut?!

ZF8 is great, as automatics go—but, it’s still an auto. And, yes, wow, people are crazy.

Although, if you were replacing an SMG, maybe that would make sense? But, nah.

I understand the ZF6 ---> ZF8 swaps that are also now happening. Looks like it's pretty simple to retrofit to an E90 now.

That's tragic. I can see an older ZF6 being upgraded to a ZF8, especially if as you mention, it's not that hard.

By all accounts it's basically the best automatic ever. I'm planning on test driving an M340i and an M550i this spring just to try to get some early insight. I've been reading that the ZF8 works very well in both models. We'll see.
