Talking Luke, this is your Fah-Jah.....

So, Nick, since your mother and I appear to be holding on to the B8 S4 until you pry our cold, dead, fingers from around it, why don't you just negotiate to buy one yourself?

Seems like there are several B8s on cars.com etc with less than 40,000 miles on them that are asking for around $27k. How bout negotiating the price down on one?

Not a sermon, just a thought

Was using the search engine for something and hit on this thread.

So Nick, did you ever put a ribbon and bow on this one?

What about a lease on a new A4 manual? I haven't driven one of those yet, but it might be worth considering.

Pretty much the blandest German car on the road right now. I think I'd rather have a GTI, it at least has some driving involvement despite being FWD.

All the reviews I've read put the new A4 at the top of the heap - however, it's still a sedan, so ...

What about an 09 or 10 manual cayenne? Not a car but might meet the rest of your criteria.

Too big. Also too difficult to service, which is a major component of the E90's appeal. We already have a number of E90 special tools available, as well as INPA.

Here's a different option, if I remember right, you liked the way it cruised and thought the back seat was a fine place to drive adults to dinner:
