We have the off white interior in my spouse’s X5. Not my choice, and not a great choice. But my black interior in the 2 shows a lot of lighter scuffs and smears (sun lotion is a bad mix with black.)

Or not?

The white also felt softer to me than the black. The sale guy agreed.

The white interior in all Teslas is “vegan”... Tesla has phased out all leather options — but only black was offered in leather and vegan. Tan leather was replaced by cream vegan. Gray leather was discontinued. The S and X have a black cloth base interior also.

The material used by Tesla is supposed to be stain resistant, but I’d be wary of having white or other very light colors.

The tan leather in my Model S has picked up some blue from jeans — more on the passenger seat than drivers for some reason. My wife’s Mini has an “oyster” interior and it’s just gross how dirty it looks...

I was naively thinking maybe Sir Elon had developed a new magicly un-stainable white material. He did apparently tweet it that's more stain resistant than the black.

Regarding the Performance AWD version. Looking at the Model S, the performance gap of the various version does reduce quite a bit above 50mph. Cars that are 20-25% apart in 0-60 are within 5-10% 50-70 or 70-90

The P and non-P Dual Motor will feel very similar.

The biggest difference will be the 0-60 time -- 3.5s vs 4.5s. Everything else will feel nearly the same.

When I first got my Model S, I had a chance to drive 3 versions -- 60, 85 and P85. They all felt very similar. The P85 was faster, but even the 60 gave that instant torque kick-in-the-butt feel (the original 0-60s were RWD P85 4.2, 85 4.6 and 60 of 5.1 seconds…). When Tesla added dual motor, the 0-60s dropped -- each battery is slightly different, but the 100D is listed as 4.1 and the P100DL (L=Ludicrous mode) is 2.5!

I ordered the S60 and never had any regrets. Later on, I had loaners with the 21" wheels (mine has 19s…), and I really didn't like the harder ride from those wheels. I also figured the faster 0-60 would get me in trouble. I've also ridden in a P90DL and experienced a ludicrous-enabled launch -- it hurts (that was ~2.7s 0-60…)

For the 3, I decided I didn't need to spend $15k more to save a second on 0-60. There's a part of me that would like the red brakes and metal pedals (both part of the $5k upgrades package on the P). But I really don't want the 20" wheels (tire profile is too low -- and I live in pothole country now). So I went with the Dual Motor with the 19" wheels (which look awesome, and the profile isn't much lower than the 19's on the S, so I should be OK on potholes)… At 4.5s 0-60, it will be faster than my current car too.

Good luck on the decisions...

I just drove the RWD with 18's. It's still really quite fast from 30 and up. It's also definitely a less sporty ride. It's just hard to tell how much of that is the all seasons vs suspension differences. I'm less sure now, but I still don't see it worth $5k. I have a feeling better tires would make a huge difference, even in 18.

The white seats are definitely a softer material. I like them. Dammit.

And I just drove the AWD performance with 20's again. The ride is a lot more composed, and surprisingly comfortable. 19's might be the ticket

Also, after 3 reasonably long test drives I'm starting to wonder - once time passes and the acceleration novelty wears off, do the other vehicle dynamics grow on you. Or get old? The steering is a little weird. The ride is decent but somehow different. Mostly quiet but with a lot of wind noise... Is it a one trick pony?

Oh and it turns out I get the $2k no matter what. So it's $9,500 off sticker. Sweet!

The acceleration isn't a novelty. It doesn't wear off ;-)

If you get the 2k either way, get the Performance. My first one was an 85, and while ZBB is right that the performance difference is (relatively) small, I regretted not getting the P immediately. Since getting the P85, I’ve never gotten tired of the acceleration.

I’d also say it’s not a one trick pony. Especially for commuting, it’s a very relaxing car to drive.
