Car prices are crazy these days. Past few years of pandemic plus inflation have not been kind.

Agreed… I have been SUV shopping the past few weeks, new and preowned. It is nuts out there! A real turn off. The funniest thing is one of the local Honda dealers with a $4300 addendum of required crap on each model they are selling.

Just looked at an inflation calculator. That would be $21,000 in 2002, when I bought mine. Pretty sure that’s about what I paid

Driving and owning the M5
Speak for yourself! 😁 I was specifically talking about inflation over the past 3-4 years. Many brands had multiple price increases during that time due to initial pandemic supply chain shock and then inflation and few have cut prices back down, other than some of the EVs trying to jump start slow sales. Agree though that the pricing on a 15-20 year time frame probably isn’t too out of whack when adjusted for inflation over that time.

Yes, as bad as a Big 3 dealership. You should have heard what the sales manager said to me regarding me declining to pay the addendum of needless fluff, leaving a deposit for an unknown arrival of an auto without all the garbage installed during PDI, and me looking at Acura products. He did his best to strong arm me, but he got shut down very quickly. Sadly, you would be correct. Edit: OT, I think at this point I am going to wait until mid June for the G45 X3 reveal and see how that goes. BMWBLOG has driven a prototype and it seems impressive so far, but as we all know the exterior appearance may or may not be attractive. The other option on the table would be the mildly updated 2025 MDX. Last edited by SCA; 04-24-2024 at 08:47 AM. |

My mind still anchors to 50-70k being a lot of money for a car and the kind of money that gets you a very premium car.
Our loaded LR4 was $60k (in 2013). Our F80 was $70k (in 2018). Now those cars push $100k. I just need to readjust. My sub $40k ZHP is now that $70k M340i. Makes sense. It has been 20 years. |
