If it hasn't been mentioned already, definitely hold out for the Performance Package (or whatever it's called in other years). The +10hp doesn't matter (especially to APR'd folks like us) but the R brakes and the LSD. The LSD is noticeable, on corner exit helps holds the line under power rather have the usual FWD run out.

thanks, new one is tempting with the new long warranty and it seems to have the LSD as default.

Having test driven the GTI a bit last year, the LSD is a necessity. The HP is also more noticeable than you'd expect.

Lame, looks like SE is required for lsd. I thought the xds was the lsd but is brake based fakery.

Edit: odd that the overview of trims does not mention the lsd and there is no compare option

Edit2: and a sunroof is standard with the se trim. Lsd requires sunroof

The 2017 "Sport" has the LSD, the 10 extra HP, no sunroof and cloth seats. I haven't looked at the 2018 package configurations, but I would be shocked if you had to get a sunroof to get the LSD.

Prepared to be shocked

Edit: you can still get cloth though

SE and Autobahn trims also include the brakes from the Golf R and an electronically controlled, torque sensing, limited-slip VAQ differential. Infotainment systems receive larger screens throughout the range, and SE models now include a sunroof as standard equipment.

What’s wrong with a sunroof
