Everything I've read suggests it's horrible to work for Elon. Rumors that people avoid walking by his desk because if he's in a bad mood you might get fired.

That said, I don't get the tweets. People get laid off. It happens. And when you are you are often escorted out so that you can't do any damage on the way.

What am I missing that should spark outrage?

What you're missing is how his wife's tweets are going to keep him from getting his next job...

This

and who in their right f*cking mind would move across country to work for a car company without some sort of ironclad contract

This. I think it's just another example of how mismanaged Tesla is. That type of management style is not sustainable and is eventually going to lead to poor morale and burnout (if it hasn't already). I kind of wish they would just go bankrupt already so that someone like BMW/Daimler/Toyota/Apple? can pick up the pieces and run it properly. They're good at innovation, design and marketing, but really need help with the boring parts of running a big company (logistics/production/IT/management/customer service). Hard to see them getting better at those things as long as Elon is in charge.

This video provides a funny (but sad) example of how bad they are at some of those things (specifically about a used Tesla purchase gone awry but gets at some of the systemic issues they have):

I checked in with the body shop today. I should be getting my car back late next week - just over 4 months after the accident.

The body work is now complete, and it’s heading into paint. They ended up having to order a new rear sub frame and a rear strut, but those parts will be in in time to complete reassembly. They also replaced the drivers side rear wheel, and are checking the passenger side (I was pushed off the road into grass and it was scratched...).

Once I get it back I’ll be able to start the additional insurance claims for loss of use and diminished value. ..

Daaaaamn dude. I'm sorry it took so long, but I'm glad the end is near.

Thoughts on whether you're keeping it or flipping it? If it drove fine I'd probably keep it, mostly out of laziness and cheapness.

What are you driving now?

Current thought is to keep it short term - maybe 6-9 months. Basically wait to see what iterations Tesla makes (tan interior perhaps?). I also want to see how the diminished value claim ends up (and I’ll be taking it to CarMax for a quote as soon as I pick it up.

I’m still in a rental car. I’ve had a Buick Regal 5-door hatch for the last few weeks, but it’s due back on Fri (and due for an oil change, so I won’t be able to extend it for another week). I need to post a thread about the rental cars I’ve had since Oct...

Here’s some quick thoughts on the rentals I’ve had since Oct:

Ford Fusion Hybrid. Only good thing to say is I averaged 44 MPG over the month I had it. Complete slug in regular mode. Eco mode worse. Felt heavy

Hyundai Elantra. This one was really beat up - dents, dings, stains. Cheap interior plastics. But it drove surprisingly well (as far as FWD econoboxes go). Averaged 35 mpg over 2 weeks.

Chevy Malibu. Only had it a week. Unremarkable and boring to drive. Averaged -25 mpg (was surprised how bad — and it even has an auto start/stop “feature”. Only good thing was it had Apple CarPlay, so didn’t have to try to stick the phone some place visible to use Waze. One unusual design fact - part of the dash was cloth covered (where you’d normally see leather or soft plastic...)

Buick Regal. I’ve had this for 4 weeks now. It’s a platform-mate of the Malibu, but somehow works better. Maybe I’m just partial to 5-door hatches? I think this has a different engine than the Malibu as it is not as sluggish. It has a 9-speed automatic that oddly has no sport mode, even though pulling the gear lever left allows push/pull manual shifting... averaging about 32mpg.

One thing I like about both the Malibu and Regal is that they have the keyless unlock button on the door handle (similar to BMW/MINI). But the button is on all 4 doors. The drivers door button only unlocks that door, but the other 3 buttons unblock all doors - Unlike BMW...

I also had a couple rentals during trips - a Chevy Traverse and Impala. Only drove the Traverse about 30 miles, but I drove the Impala from Sun Valley to Boise and back. Not a fan of the styling, but it was a decent large sedan with nice seats. Drove well enough on that short road trip...

I don't think this is correct (about the platform mate) pretty sure the Regal is mate to the Opel Insignia (Epsilon II platform) as well as the Holden ZB Commodore. Engineered (and built?) in Germany

I had a fully loaded GSX AWD for a weekend test drive and i enjoyed it a lot (for what it was) Wife liked the Fusion Titanium AWD more, and it was going to be her car so.... Unlike the Fusion you rented, this one had the turbo intercooled engine that is also in the Focus ST, nothing hybrid about it
