Isn't the Focus ST the new MS3?

I hate VWs, but the new GTI is a tough car to beat for what her needs seem to be. Has she/you checked one out?

I don't have room to talk about the Mini since my wife loves them too, but I think the 5-door looks awkward in some color/trims but can look okay with the right color/trim/wheel combo.

I think you've mentioned that you hated the look of the new Civic hatch, but that could be an option in Si version? The Type R seems way over the top, but I'm curious about the Civic Sport manual hatch as a more practical compliment to my car.
I think the 5 door Mini looks very awkward, but the Clubman actually works pretty well, stylistically. It's $$$, though.

I agree. I saw a yellow/black/black rims and a green/silver Mini 5-door that looked okay, but I've seen blue/white stripes/white rims, all black, grey, and probably others that were meh.

It's probably the closest you can get.

The Focus ST she thinks is ugly and she hates the interior.

The GTI is on the short list of cars to go drive.

The idea of a Mini scares me. They are notoriously unreliable, parts are expensive and they seem poorly built to me. But maybe I'll change my view once we drive a new one. Dunno.

Ohhh, do I want to buy your mazdaspeed 3 as my winter car?

I'll trade you a pristine condition e46 for it?

JV... looks aside, do you suspect the 2nd gen Mazdaspeed3 would hold up as well as your 1st gen has done?

We've been looking at these, FoST, Civics, and E82s for my next "daily" driver. It checks a lot of boxes except I don't love the 2nd gen styling and 1st gens have lots of miles.

Have you made any progress looking at replacements?

Marisa has declared that she loves the car too much to sell it. So for now, it stays. 170,000 miles and nearly bulletproof. I can't argue I guess. I may put a timing chain, guides and VVT actuator in it this spring since that's a known weak point of this engine.

The 2g cars are essentially the same as the 1g, just ugly. Should be pretty reliable?
