List of best cars for teens (insurance)
I was floored when I came across this list.
https://www.valuepenguin.com/cheapest-cars-insure-teens Of course, I own a Miata (never had considered it a car for my boys to eventually drive often and I still think it's a bad idea), and as I mentioned on an earlier waffling thread, would definitely consider a GTI (or other Golf) for them to use. I am just surprised the Miata and GTI are up near the top. They seem like cars that would get kids to drive fast/irresponsibly and thus be expensive to insure. And yes, I have 5 years until I have to worry about it. |

It's all about the stats.
Weird to see the Mustang on that list. That's usually the type of car you'd expect to see at the more expensive end. |

bummer, the e46 wagon didn't make the list
I am surprised by the Miata. It is interesting that most of the cars on the 'best' list are available/primarily sold with a manual. Perhaps this re-affirms the idea that manuals keep people more engaged in driving. Or maybe it just makes cars harder to steal ?? In any case I am currently teaching our 21 yr old to drive a stick. My poor 1er. Its going pretty well. She just needs to stop dumping the clutch as soon as the car starts moving.

Interesting where the least and most are separated by only about $600. None of them cheap though.
