That doesn't even make sense. Unless you're inferring that I should own 5 purpose-built vehicles so that I never have to make compromises for any given task?

I'm trying to think of a vehicle that does a better job of fulfilling "trucky" + family + TCOA duties better than the last gen. 4Runner. If I ever think of one, I'll let you know.

Top Car Of America(?)

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Durango, any full sized pickup - all of which are a lot cheaper.

Right. The current crop of unibody utility vehicles have just as much room, can tow the same amount of weight but turn, accelerate and stop better and get better mileage. And are less expensive.

That's why the 4Runner makes no sense to me. But if you like it you don't need to justify it to me.

I suspect that you're referring to the newest 4Runner. I'm talking about the last gen 4Runner.

I recall the Jeep being more expensive than our 4Runner at the same point in time. The Durango I didn't (wouldn't) even consider. And what about maintenance + resale factors? I'll bet that's where it leaves the models you mentioned in the dust.

And the last gen JGC, and Durango, apparently.

Oh, so now you're involving time travel?

I guess that makes sense since the development of that thing basically halted several years ago.

I don't know about your tco calculations, but I'd wager that a Wrangler Unlimited would put up a good fight.
