Nice choice. Great, safe family car. We drove ours all weekend, despite some sexier options in the garage.

Haha sure. It's a CPO 2016 x5 50i with about 15k miles. Same exact colors as my previous X5 which I traded in (carbon black / black leather). This one has a nice set of options including dynamic handling package, which is very difficult to find.

Good -

Engine: it's meaningfully faster than my old X5, due to more HP (rated at 445 which seems low) and less weight

Handling: the DHP really works.

Luxury features: it's nice having ventilated seats and a high resolution screen. The interface has been improved significantly. I also like the head-up display.

Bad -

Steering: when I first drove the new car I thought I had broken the steering wheel off. It's unbelievably light at low speeds, whereas the hydraulic steering in my E70 was BMW-heavy and I loved it.

Seats: they just aren't as comfortable as the ones in the E70, which is sad.

Wheels: I would have preferred the 20" staggered wheels, but this checked most of the other boxes. The stock 19s make the car look like it missed leg day at the gym.

Anyway, I've been looking for one for a while and I'm glad to be done with the search for a bit. Should be a good family truckster for the next few years.

Looking good ... it is really unusual to see an X5 with the 8 cylinder engine ... that is pretty awesome !!

The sport setting heavies up the steering, but doesn't make it any more responsive.

One of my pet peeves is how touchy the accelerator is. Much more herky-jerky than my M240 with the 8-speed trans.

And you're right, the comfort seats aren't as great as the ones we had in your dad's wagon. BTW, we got the comfort seats for the rear this time as well, because we got used to the adjustable rear seats when we had the E70 with the third row. The comfort seats preserve the adjustable function.

We skipped the third row this time to get the spare tire. Anyway, pet peeves aside, a really great family hauler with a ton of power. The V8 solves the main complaint we had about the E70 3.0si.
