Yeah, I don't do that. That would drive me nuts. Once I buy something, I move on. As you know, I do waffle a lot before I make the decision though.

Just put in an order for a $1,600 bracket that I am 85% sure that I can replace without pulling the engine.

I am not sure if I should put this here and in FC's Boxster thread where a slight 911 vs cayman/Boxster conversation occurred but here it is ...
This has been a real Porsche driving week, drove the Cayman twice for the day and drove the 911 twice for the day ... Maybe it's because the 911 is a 6 cylinder versus a 4 Cylinder turbo or maybe it's an S model with crazy big brakes and PASM versus a base model with regular brakes and no PASM but man the 911 just feels incredible .... the Cayman is a lot of fun but it just doesn't kick ass like the 911. The way the 911 Rear digs in when either taking a quick right turn under partial throttle or when shifting lanes while high on the throttle zig zagging around cars going from one lane to the next, this car is just an amazing car to drive. And man these brakes are insane ... I love flying up in third and hit 85mph right before I take a right turn into my development and then I hit the brakes hard, down shift to second, take my turn then completely go into chill mode ... this car is just incredible. Also noticing something about PDK and I had mentioned it when I test drove the 991.2, it has a noticeable delay when taking off the line, nothing like the Single clutch in the R8 but the delay is just there ... you floor it, the engines revs up and then it just goes. When I test drove the 991.2 pdk I thought it was the turbo lag causing the delay but after driving the manual version in a car Josh almost got I now believe it was due to the PDK. Still love the PDK but the delay is something you just don’t get when driving a manual. |

well, the delay occurs in a manual, but you don’t feel it because you’re the delay. with a clutch transmission, you input throttle and wait.

I am glad I waited out for the one I got (.2 manual) and didn't compromise. We put another 500miles on it this weekend (up to almost 16k now). It really is a great all around car. Feels so good driving it, can be a comfy gt car or dig in and make you giggle around a corner or revving through 2nd gear. You can catch some lag if you lug down 2nd and catch it off guard, but it has an appropriate amount of down low torques and feels like an N/A engine when it is pulling up in revs. That's where it really shines compared to the bmw turbos, it doesn't fall flat on its face 1000rpm before redline, it just keeps screaming.
Alan, you should ditch the cayman and the .1 and get that night blue 2017 s convertible I posted above. It's a great build. I upgraded my tweeters last week and it has made a big improvement in the stereo performance. I was able to eliminate the harshness and tiring aspect of the stereo, so now we can rock out and sing along to bad music without our ears hurting. It was a really good mod.

I can’t get rid of the 911 ... that car has a spell on me plus it has only 15k miles on it ... the Cayman is up to I think 2,400 miles and i’m still really enjoying it ... Next car for me will be replacing the 540 which is due in a few months .... |
