Carmakers widen seats for wider ... seats (USA Today)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/usatoday/200...sforwiderseats

Gotta love Honda's PR explanation.

Honestly, while the seats in ayn's MR were great, I thought they could have been even more narrow without detracting from comfort. Should have just brought over the JDM versions.

Good humor

Never understood why we always have to treat the symptoms, rather than treating the "disease", though. Of course, as America gets fatter and fatter, I start looking sexier and sexier. So it's not all bad.

The next time you're in a hospital, check out the selection of wheelchairs.

It's pretty frightening.

I actually think it is a good idea especially for Honda products. My upper body is on the broader side (not fat) and I have always found that certain Honda & Acura's had seats were too confining.

For example, the Acura integra GSR, the Honda Prelude and the Civic Si hatchback(outgoing model).

Even the TL hugged my upper body a little too much around the shoulder area and to me this was one of my concerns with it. I find a larger seat much more comfortable.

it is a disturbing trend.

we might miss out on the good cars from Japan and Europe because we're so fat because they won't want to ship their cars over here with the top-end seats because they'd have to swap in fat-people seats.
