real world 335i testing: on par with M3.....

.......thought this was germane to our other conversations about the car.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/08/...14-mile-times/

granted, this is all straightline stuff, but the numbers speak to the car's ability to get up and go.

i'm intrigued.

(never been a fan of the e46m3 power characteristics, so this huge bolus of torque from a straight six, no mean feat, definitely appeals to neanderthals)

On this thread, e90post.com posters are reporting that Autozeitung had the 335i auto as a second faster around their "raceroad" (whatever that means) than the E46 M3 SMG.

I can see the 335 being faster in the real world, given the torque "curve."

i need to drive this car. not so much for the e90 chassis, but i want to see how good this engine is.

i hope they put it in the e60 wagon.

then i've found my solution, i think.

I would say the same thing except for how ugly the E60 is (front end and interior - wagon fixes rear), and how much it will cost. Also, it is not as roomy as the E-wagon or V70 in the rear cargo area.

Good luck finding one to drive. I'll bet there's already a waiting list just to buy one sight-unseen.

The first cars will be hard to come by. Finding one in, say, October won't be difficult. Finding one with a stick might be, just because dealers don't order those for stock.

you could still infer a lot about the car, even driving the automatic. if anything, you might be able to discern more of the turbo lag, if any, with the 6speed auto.

WOW, the new M3 V8 will have to pack serious power and gearing to appeal to the 0-60 crowd if the 335i is that dam fast.

Now I know the price will be in par with the RS4. Can you say high 60's.

M3 is definitely going to have to move further upmarket with the 335 introduction. I'm praying they try to hold the weight to E46 M3 levels, but not holding my breath.

Plus just think of all the depressed rich teens who now need to whine to Mommy and Daddy about getting them a new car because the new chipped 335i is killing them in street light races. haha

Oh the tragedy.
