Thoughts on the R32?

On paper, it sounds great. And the Edmunds review supported what I would suspect. I need to go drive one.

I know JST drove one and I recall his comments to me about it. But I am not deterred. The only deterrant (at this point - without having driven it myself yet) is price.

On paper, we've got a small, AWD hatch (with some practicality in the back) with 240 HP and a 6-spd manual tranny. It's a little heavy, but it's also comfortable, well-appointed and handsome, inside and out.

I am going to make a point to drive one soon, but I'm also looking for comments from you guys.

When Jeremy Clarkson says it's an old fart car, that tell me that it's probably a little too boring.

But then, I said that to you last weekend.

But I AM an old fart.

And, yes, I know what you all said in person. I'm fishing for second opinions.

It's just so very right on paper that I want to believe it's that good in real life.

totally underwhelming for the money. even at $25,000 it's totally underwhelming.

but, it is $30,000 and the bar is too high right now.

i doubt it handles with any of the sharpness that any of "us" like.

So what are the non-ricer alternatives at $30K?

Part of the appeal to me is the all-weather commuting ability with AWD. And I don't want a FWD car as my primary vehicle.

What else gives me AWD in an enthusiast package without rice for $30K?

There's a slightly ragged on 325xiT that would give you that for much less than $30k.
