Has anyone gone new car shopping lately

I took our Q7 in for service a week ago and saw on the showroom floor the mark up's on the cars ... the same Q5 we have now has a mark up of $5,000, the Q7 has a $10,000 mark up (and that was the 4 cylinder model) and the E-tron GT has a $50,000 mark up bringing it up to a total of $161k .

Today the dealer called me to let us know we have 9 months left on the Q7 lease and told me if I want to get a new Audi it would take 6 to 12 months to get one so I should really consider ordering one now ... just crazy !!

The market is still crazy and inventory levels are really low. A “good” deal today is MSRP, you’re lucky to get anything off from that, and plenty of dealers are at least trying to get a few $k over on a lot of different brands. Lease incentives (cash, elevated residuals, etc) are also non-existent. Tough time to buy a new car.

I’m getting monthly mailers from my BMW dealer trying to get me out of the current X5 and into another one. It’s laughable how bad the deals are right now, the only saving grace that makes the deal not absolutely atrocious is the equity in my current car (currently +$15k… have never experienced this in a BMW lease) if I rolled that it. At this point though still leaning towards just buying out this lease and keeping it another year or two until things settle a bit.

I'm going to the bmw dealer on Tuesday to check out a 2019 x5. I'm cautiously optimistic that I can trade the wagon in and make out ok because my cars value is equally inflated so it will be a wash.

Wow $15k positive is pretty amazing for a lease and I think you’re right about possibly buying out the lease might be the best idea, we are thinking the same.

I discussed it with my wife earlier to see if she would mind keeping it or does she want a different car and she said is good with keeping it so I think we will buy out the Q7. It only has 14k miles on it and it is a really great SUV.

I just need to see if there is an advantage to buying it now versus 9 months from now when the lease is up.

I think you might be good trading it in, do you get the tax advantage like we do in NY when you trade it in ?

What I mean by that is in NY if they give you $50k for a trade in and you buy a car for $60k you only pay sales tax on the $10k difference.

Yep, the tax savings is part of the reason it might make sense. It works the same way in PA.

The short answer is that right now, unless you hate the car, you should buy it out at the end of the lease. Buy an extended warranty for peace of mind if you want.

Prices for new cars right now are *insane*. Worse yet, the build quality is absolutely shit.

And expect the market to be like this for another 18 months to 2 years…. It will take until mid 2023 for the automakers to get back to full production, plus time for backlog to settle down…

Yep, I have been surprised by a few things that QC at BMW Plant Spartanburg let slide on my father’s new X3. I am fairly confident that it is not just his either. Any complaint to BMW would fall upon deaf ears too.

I have a friend who has a 2019 3500 GMC truck. He is now retired and bought a bid ass 42' fifth wheel travel trailer and 'needed' a bigger truck to pull it.

Well... He traded in his above mentioned full ton truck for $8k ABOVE what he paid for it - and ordered a brand new 2022 F450 for $5k below MSRP.

Dunno how this work in the grand scheme of things, but... My friend is NO dummy - so I believe what he told me. Just crazy how this market is right now....
