Porsche of Silver Spring finally got back to me. They want a 5% deposit to hold my place on the waiting list. I politely declined.

Out of curiousity did they also tell you that you'd be "number 2" on the waiting list? Seems to be a common thing for dealers who practice deposit farming

They did not.

Unfortunately, due to microchip shortage, mid-engine vehicles got the most affected and not being manufactured as much. I am afraid to tell you that we just can't promise the delivery time. Especially GTS engine is even going to be longer than Cayman, Cayman T. Cayman S.

What we can do is we can take your Porsche code with deposit to get you in line, we can call you when we get the allocation.

It is like the $1000 Rivian deposit, cash ain’t making anything currently so might was well put down a refundable deposit. Not sure if I will actually buy it

No idea. The other contact I had didn't ask for a deposit to get on the wait list, so that's the direction I went.

The several times I've put deposit money down on new cars in MD, the written agreements have noted the deposits as refundable and those that I cancelled were promptly refunded.

Did you have to give your spec, or did they just add your name to an allocation and you'll spec it when they give you a build window? Any info on their lead-time?
