What? When the doors lock? That makes no sense.

Yeah I think what Nick is experiencing with his x5 is definitely a bug not a feature. I know what you guys are saying regarding the feature where BMWs with frameless doors will drop the window slightly when you open the door....but a) the x5 doesn't have frameless doors and b) it sounds like the window is going all the way down and then all the way back up.

And, yeah there are lots of obscure features that can be enabled via coding but this wouldn't make any sense (windows going down when car is locked!!)

That's not entirely correct.

It goes down and stays down when you lock with the fob.

It closes when you turn the ignition on. (Unless you intervene.)

If they opened and closed, i'd care less.

Gotcha...makes it even more likely to be a fault and not some obscure feature enabled via coding.

Seems like a problem with the General Module (at least on the years I'm familiar with) or something extremely funky with the bus* (more common on iBus, less with MOST). Either buy a reman unit from a dealer and pay to have it coded, or use a service like this: https://www.bmwgm5.com

* My wagon has a custom feature where if it is locked with the windows down, it will put them up (in discrete steps, accompanied by blips on the horn beforehand in case anyone has an arm - or nose - in the window) if it starts raining. Rather non-factory. If things like the Raspberry Pi and Arduino had existed when i-Bus cars were common, we'd have seen a lot of creative add-ons.

my bad, I read unlock. There is an awful setting called comfort entry in bimmercode that when you unlock the door with the key and then open it the window rolls down all the way. Then when you close the door the window rolls back up.

Its exceptionally useful when there is 3" of snow on the car and you wan to inadvertently roll the window down so all the snow falls onto the drivers seat.
Easy access
If the car is unlocked pushing the unlock button on the remote control twice, the driver door window is lowered when the door is opened.

Values:
Active
Not active
Requirements:
“Car Access System” CAS3 control unit

never understood why bmw didn’t just pipe it straight out? that would have been fine. or if they really were committed to the turn down, just do it like they did the diesel and turn it down behind the bumper.
