Yep. Another point of confusion not addressed in the article is that they also re-jiggered the option packages such that "Autopilot" now is just adaptive cruise + lane keeping while "Full Self Driving" includes navigate on autopilot, auto park and summon.

Then again, I never understood why anyone would pay thousands upfront for a vaguely defined option that might never see the light of day. Always seemed more like a thinly veiled "gofundme" type of thing where you could donate money to Tesla.

I’m not sure what the fuss is about...

Matt and I purchased “Enhanced Auto Pilot”, which was $5k at order or $6k to add later. Full Self Driving was another $3k, and we didn’t purchase it due to phantom ware (and it could be enabled later for $5k). With EAP, we get traffic aware cruise control, autosteer, and “navigate on autopilot” on highways. FSD was never fully defined, but total cost was $8k at order, or $10-$11k if activated after delivery.

Now they have flipped the pricing, and dropped the word “enhanced”. Autopilot includes just TACC and Autosteer for $3k at order/$4k later. FSD is now $5k at order /$7k later and includes Navigate on Autopilot now (highway version now/city streets version later), with stop light/sign recognition coming. Total cost is still $8k at order or $10-11k later.

And Tesla has thrown us current owners a bone... we can now add FSD for only $3k, not $5k. And they have defined that it will include Nav on Autopilot for city streets and the stop light/sign recognition. Still phantomware for now, but no more price penalty (for now at least...)

Tesla has dropped prices. Big frickin hairy deal - after rebate it’s not much...

If you hadn't ordered EAP you would be able to now add AP and FSD to your car for $5k total.

People who purchased EAP have to pay $3k extra to get FSD (some are saying Elon tweeted it's going to change to $2k)

Anybody that paid up for "Full Self Driving" deserves to lose that money.

Look, Tesla fucks with prices all the time. Sometimes they go up. Sometimes they go down. I have zero sympathy for people complaining about price hikes or drops. You bought a car that was worth what you paid when you bought it. Enjoy.

Can't really argue with that.

Looks like the FSD upgrade changed to $2k overnight...

I’ll consider paying for it, but only after the additional features are released... and maybe only after getting a trial (which Tesla has offered on upgrades in the past)...

"New research by Quality Control Systems Corporation (QCSC) has found that Tesla’s Autosteer may have made accidents more common instead of reducing crashes."
