There were already some very smart people working at Tesla when musk joined. And I believe the “white star” project was already underway. So I’m not sure how much he actually had to do with some of the novel ideas that were introduced in the model s. I do think he gets credit for willing to push the limits when it comes to hardware and bragging about what the hardware can do.

Tesla was founded in July 2003. Musk became the majority shareholder in Feb 2004 -- during their Series A funding round. While he didn't become CEO until 2008 after Tesla nearly failed during the financial crisis, he has had influence with them since shortly after the founding. White Star was publicly announced in June 2008 -- and was basically the first example of Musk promoting future product to help save the company...

The press embargo expired on the Rivian R1T yesterday, Sept 28th. Tons of review articles and YouTube videos are out.

Very nice…. Guessing he/she is one of the many that Elon is suing Rivian over.

yeah tempted to put down a 1k deposit for the R1S to replace the 4runner. A bit worried about the size though, almost seems suburban sized.

Is there something significantly different in their battery tech or driveline? Just curious how they differentiate.

Has a motor per wheel which helps it offroad and tested extensively offroad. Ran into their test mules out in Anza Borrego awhile back.. Also not run by musk

I do not believe it is any larger than the R1T since it is built off of it. The R1T is in-between a Tacoma and a F150.

RJ Scaringe, the founder and CEO of Rivian is a much more likable guy. He also appears to genuinely care about people as well as the environment. Smart guy too, MIT grad with a doctorate from there as well.

Not bad at all... so basically the size of an X7 which is not huge. My brother has a '21 X7 M50. I know this much, it fits in a small two car condo garage as it is currently stored at my former residence while his home is under major renovations. Anyways... my former '14 4R Limited was parked where his X7 currently is.
