There's definitely a price premium in the used market, about the only way you'd pay more for an SMG model over a 6MT today.

Honestly, while I wanted a 6MT myself, I think SMG is fine.

I think you like SMG, I probably would want to do a 6MT but actually sort of interested in trying SMG-II. Slushy would be swapped for sure.

Edit: They charged $1k for alcantara, I thought it was a no cost option. What if you order nothing?
I didn't know those seats existed when I ordered mine or I may have done it. The base cloth was no cost and doesn't look like Pacman.

But yeah, I'll stick with my car that costs me nothing but maintenance, though boy does it need some at this point.

I think the alcantara was a special order. They also had a few other special order leather colors like smurf blue and an awkward light green (Kiwi?). I saw an Imola Red with Smurf Blue leather online not too long ago, basically the reverse color combo of the (edit) superman (/edit) thing people do today. It looked horrible.

The dealer thought I was a bit unhinged when I ordered Interlagos\Cinnomon on my E46 comp M3 until it arrived. Then they changed there mind. Close to that Estrol\Modena E36 M3 vert I posted.

Some of the best BMW's are the strange color combo's.

I rank the E36 lower more for what it isn't, than for what it is. Particularly in U.S. market trim, it was not daring enough, not different enough from the regular 3-series. On the other hand, it's the easiest of the three to live with, a superb all-around car (arguably more so than either the E46 and E30), still the best E36 you can buy, and probably the best value among the first three generations of M3 today, if you can find a nice example.

I mean, I spent more to purchase my '99 than my '03 and '88 combined. (Try doing that today...) I still don't regret it.
And I think that was what ruined the E46 for me. I expected it to fix all the things I didn't like about the E36... and it didn't. It did fix some stuff but also added a bunch of problems.

Well, of the three M3s I've purchased, two of them will have had their oil pans dropped and rod bearings replaced. The other one was an E36.

Is that a trailer brake controller on the knee pad below the steering wheel?

Edit:
Actually, it kind of looks like a 3.5" disk drive.
