OT, Has anyone seen what is removed on 992 to change the engine air filters?
I'd be scared to find out. Is it an engine out service? LOL

Bumper and a lot of other plastic off. It's kind of offensive.

I'm sure they have their reasons but i really dont understand the point of that plastic cover they put over the whole engine bay. They should be celebrating the fact that these are possibly some of the last ICE sports cars...show off the engine in all its gory glory! And yeah, I know the engine bays of 911s in the past aren't the nicest looking things but I still think owners would appreciate it more than a piece of plastic. As a nice side effect, maybe you wouldn't have to disassemble the car to change an air filter. The vibe I want to have from a Porsche is that this is a very well built mechanical object that I could keep forever if I maintain it....instead of this is a sealed, disposable thing not to messed with ( like an iphone)

I have got a photo of said service via my friend that is a Porsche tech, but I have been unable to locate it. If/when I find it, I will make certain to post it. It is a lot of R&I just to replace air filters.

It probably has a lot to do with all the effort involved in pushing the engine forward. Also, there's so much more in the engine bay now that it's just less and less plausible to get real access to things topside. Like, realistically, all you're going to see over a modern engine is plastic anyway.

Ah good point. Starting w/ the 991, the 911 has transitioned into a quasi mid engine platform.

Exactly.
I mean, will any 992 see enough mileage for orig owner to have to pay for that air filter service?

AP3 finally got back. $2600 for full front and sides. That is about what everyone who's any good in Boston charges for a similar service. They did say it would take two full days. They also offer a flatbed service to get the car form PEC to their shop.

The issue of course is that we would have to burn two days in ATL, which means additional time for someone to watch our kids, which would be closer to a week including a not very rush drive back. I'm bothered by all extra costs of having this done in ATL - hotels, meals, transportation, etc. This also promises to be a busy time at work.

Also, AP3 offers ceramic coating at $1,500, which shows how much of a premium the PEC is (35% more).
